What is this all about, anyway?

As a Unitarian Universalist, I have, for some time now, been searching for a spiritual practice, to help me cope with life, to help me develop and deepen my spirituality, and to perhaps help others as well.  I decided, with the advent of 2013, to attempt to write a prayer every single day, even if it is just a simple affirmation or aspiration.  I look forward to the journey!

It’s a great project! I remember years ago a Unity minister saying to write a list of 10 thinks you are thankful for every day. Absolutely anything. Nothing is stupid. You could just be thankful for air or a toothbrush, who knows – anything. At first people find it hard, and then it blossoms so you can’t stop thinking of things to be grateful for. Somehow we fall out of practice. I don’t know why it is so hard. Instinct, maybe, trains us not to be aware of everything all the time so as not to be overwhelmed, because if you think about it too long, it is overwhelming.
