Write a Prayer-a-Day Project

Rise and move, conquering inertia.  Stretch, yawn, and attend to the moment.  Dress for today’s life, eat, then prepare.  Our morning ritual, our daily re-entry into life.  We do not know what this day has in store for us: the best days of our lives began with this same mantra, as did our darkest days.  Prepare today knowing that life can change in an instant; prepare by being grounded and open, secure in being ourselves.  We are alive is our affirmation, our battle cry, our lamentation, and our prayer.  We are alive, and for this we are grateful.  Blessed Be, and Amen.

Be happy, they say, but happiness is not always the appropriate emotion.

Be productive, they say, but there is also time for frivolity.

Be well, they say, but illness comes to us all.

Be together, they say, but aloneness can also be a righteous state.

Wherever we find ourselves, in whatever state or condition, may we fully own and be present to our Be-ing.  Let no one tell us we are less or incomplete, for this is never the case, not if we live into being whole.  Be open to change, not driven by it.  For simply Be-ing we give thanks.  Blessed Be, and Amen.

Life is like a box of chocolates: it’s irresistibly tasty, sometimes bitter, mostly sweet, and occasionally it’s full of nuts.  Yet we cannot restrain our appetite, can we?  Let us gorge ourselves on life!  Let us give in with total abandon, and let us savor every delicious morsel.  So what if it makes us fat?  Contour is interesting, voluptuous, erotic…indulge! May we never lose our sweet-tooth for living! For caramel coated, nougat filled, sweet and creamy life we give thanks.  Blessed Be, and Amen.

Dreams: our nocturnal companions.  Dreams: our life’s aspirations.  Dreams come to us unexpectedly, often unbidden, sometimes unwelcome.  And yet they are the attendants to our lives.  It has been said that life is but a dream, and yet we are admonished to not live in our dreams.  Let us find inspiration in our dreams, and then turn them to purposeful action.  May we be invigorated by the act of dreaming, ever more fanciful, that we may delight in the act of living.  For our dreams we give thanks.  Blessed Be, and Amen.

Children of the Stars are we, the recycled matter of the universe.  We are re-purposed.  We often ponder the purpose in living, when perhaps we should be pondering our re purpose.  We have been here forever, in one form or another, as we will be here forever more.  This cosmic Truth places all the emphasis on this present and perfect moment.  We are meant for only one thing: to Be Here Now.  May we find we hold the entirety of the multiverse in our hands and in our hearts, and let that drive our actions.  Herein lies our divinity, and we are humbly grateful.  Blessed Be, and Amen.

As the adage goes, a journey of 10,000 miles begins with the first step.  Our excursions have already begun, we stride along, sometimes confident in our direction, other times uncertain of which way to turn.  And yet we sojourn on, the only choice to be made is what kind of adventurer will we be.  Bravery lies not in the exploration of the unknown, but rather in our curiosity, in our willingness to engage.  By being present to the mystery, we ultimately are exploring our own selves.  We are the uncharted waters, waiting to become known.  May we be intrepid as we reconnoiter the depths of our own being.  For courageous navigation on this hero’s journey we give thanks.  Blessed Be, and Amen.

When the sorrow cries, Listen.  Listen deeply, without response.  We long to be heard, especially when speaking with authentic voice.  The quality of the message is supreme – so too should be the quality of reception.  May we develop a practice of deep listening, receiving the thick stories that surround us; for beauty is found in the ear of the beholder, and when we listen closely, we hear the song of life moving through each of us.  We give thanks for auditory awareness.  Blessed Be, and Amen.

How do we go on? Sometimes everything boils down to that desperate question. When life seems too much, and the challenges seem insurmountable. Platitudes won’t serve us, and pride keeps us from reaching out. In these times, our prayer is for simple comfort, to be seen and held. Prayer alone will not solve our problems, but prayer will always remind us that in spite of our tribulations, we are worthy. We are Worthy. May that knowledge keep us upright and forward-moving, fluid and strong, until the bright sunrise of tomorrow. Blessed Be, and Amen.

To be alive is Sense-ational!  The taste of crisp morning autumn air, the warmth of exhalation, the quite din of the town as it comes awake.  May we be present to our senses, open to all that we may receive.  And let us be mindful of our intuitive senses as well, as we hear the longings and the pain of those that we love.  May we encounter everyone by listening with our hearts, seeing with our souls, and touching with our complete and perfect Beings.  We are sensationally grateful!  Blessed Be, and Amen.

May today find us in the company of love and friendship, even if we find ourselves alone.  May we both deepen and broaden our relationship with ourselves.  Compassion begins at home; home is where the heart is…literally.  So as we rise to greet the world with eyes wondrous and gratitude flowing like a river, let us take that first waking moment to thank ourselves, to affirm our own worth and dignity, and to remember again that it is a blessing to be alive.  Then may we go forth and be a blessing to the world.  In gratitude we say Blessed Be, and Amen.
